Planning, Zoning & Inspections

The City of Mahtomedi is responsible for several development functions, including building inspections, code enforcement, and planning and zoning.

Building Inspections & Code Enforcement

Mahtomedi contracts with the City of White Bear Lake for building inspection and code enforcement services. The building inspector is responsible for the application and enforcement of the building code and related ordinances regulating construction, alterations, and the use of buildings within the city. In addition, he is responsible for responding to citizens' concerns relating to property maintenance, nuisances, signage, and zoning issues.

Permit or License Forms are available at Mahtomedi City Hall. Direct building questions or inspection requests to our building inspector at 651-429-8518.

Planning & Zoning

Our City Planner conducts long-range planning for future growth, and assists the Planning Commission in reviewing zoning and site design of current development projects. We contract with an outside firm for planning/zoning services. For more information, please contact our City Administrator at 651-426-3344.

Gopher State One Call

Call Before You Dig! Why should I call? Because there are thousands of miles of buried utilities that are vital to everyday living by providing electricity, natural gas and water.

  • Contacting or cutting into an underground utility line can cause loss of service
  • More importantly, it can cause injury or death
  • You are required by law to call 811 before you dig
  • If you don't call and damage a line, you could face fines and repair charges

What happens after I call? Your local utilities will be notified about your intent to dig and will send locators to your dig site to mark the location of buried lines with flags or paint. The call and locates are free of charge. When should I call? At least two business days before you’re ready to dig.
